Meaning: a fish, a kind of mullet (Opp.).
Other forms: Also ἄβραμις. And ἀβραβίς (PLond. ined., 3rd cent. AD.)
Origin: LW [a loanword which is (probably) not of Pre-Greek origin] Eg.
Etymology: The fish was salted in Egypt (Ath. 7, 312b). Fur. 220 thinks that the form with β is due to recent assimilation. Either Pre-Greek, or Egyptian.
